FootballScottie Pippen Brutally Slams Michael Jordan, Praises LeBron James
- Scottie has unleashed a scathing attack against Michael Jordan
- Pippen said his former Chicago Bulls teammate was a "horrible" player before he joined the Bulls
- Pippen also said Lakers star LeBron James has had a better statistical career than Jordan
In the 1990s, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan, and the Chicago Bulls used to steamroll the rest of the NBA. In six trips to the NBA finals, they won six championships.
However, the two Hall of Famers' relationship has deteriorated since they both retired. Pippen has taken another shot at Jordan, calling him a "horrible" player before Pippen joined the Bulls and that LeBron James has had a better statistical career than Jordan.
Pippen was heavily roasted by fans on social media for his controversial comments, but is there some truth to his remarks?
The 57-year-old has been outspoken against the spotlight Jordan's received in his career. He mentioned it in his memoir, Unguarded, per SB Nation.
What Pippen said
The six-time NBA champion was making an appearance on Stacey King's "Gimme the Hot Sauce" podcast recently when he made his controversial comments.
"LeBron will be the greatest statistical guy to ever play the game of basketball. And there's no comparison to him. None. So does that make him the greatest player to ever play the game?
"I'll leave that up for debate, because I don't believe there's a great player because our game's a team game, and one player can't do it. I saw Jordan play before I came to play with the Bulls. You guys saw him play. He was a horrible player. He was horrible to play with. He was all one-on-one, he's shooting bad shots, and all of a sudden we become a team and we start winning and everybody forgot who he was," via NBC Sports.
Is Pippen right?
Pippen joined the Bulls in 1987 after the Bulls selected him fifth overall in that year's draft. He went on to play 12 seasons in Chicago, per Sporting News. The season before Pippen joined the Bulls in 1986/87, Jordan averaged 37.1 points.
Joel Embiid urges his 76ers teammates to improve after painful playoff exit
NBATherefore, calling Jordan a "horrible" player is a stretch. Jordan was an All-Star in each of those three seasons. He won the Rookie of the Year award in the 1984/85 Rookie of the Year and led the NBA in scoring (37.1 PPG) in the 1986/87 campaign. Moreover, he led the Bulls to the postseason in all three seasons, per Bleacher Report.
Furthermore, James has the most points (38,652) and fourth-most assists (10,420) in NBA history. Statistically, none comes close, not even Jordan.
The Bulls ultimately don't win those 6 rings without Pippen.
Jordan buys $3.5m supercar
Sports Brief earlier reported on Jordan reportedly purchasing a $3.5 million supercar Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster.
The American hypercar is rare, with a limited production of just 30 units, and now Jordan has one of them.
Hennessey made the trip himself from Texas to Florida to deliver the car to the Bulls icon, who is known as an avid car collector and definitely has the money to splash on something special like this.
