Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has dismissed claims that 19-year-old French phenom, Victor Wembanyama, is a better prospect than 20-year veteran LeBron James.

At 7-foot-4 inches with a wingspan of 8 feet, Wembanyama's superb ball-handling skills, a great jump shot, and athleticism are reasons why he is generating so much hype in the sports world.

The San Antonio Spurs won the 2023 NBA draft lottery and opportunity to select Victor Wembanyama in the upcoming NBA draft next month.

James was the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft as an 18-year-old from Akron, Ohio. Many dubbed him as the next Michael Jordan at an early age. At 38, James has achieved everything and is arguably the best player of all time.

Wembanyama will enter the NBA with high expectations, just like James. Can he live up to them?

Green on Wembanyama vs. James

On a recent of his podcast, Green disagreed with the notion that Wembanyama is a better prospect than the Lakers star.

"Is he the best prospect since LeBron [James]? I think we’d all agree," Green said. "Is he the best prospect ever? Of course, everyone is going to say that now. But let’s not forget how big of a prospect LeBron James was. LeBron James was a phenom from 15 years old. LeBron James was the [hypothetical] No. 1 pick as a 15-year-old," via NBC Sports.

Green did say the towering Frenchman is the best prospect since James.

"Although we like to move on fast to the next thing, I’m just not going off the rail and saying [Wembanyama] is a better prospect than LeBron," Green said. "However, he’s definitely the best prospect since LeBron, and probably the second-best prospect ever."

This is the third time the Spurs will get the No. 1 pick. The first was in 1987, when they selected David Robinson, and the second was in 1997 when they chose Tim Duncan. The two players went on to become franchise cornerstones, and Wembanyama may be the next one, per CBS Sports.

The Spurs now have a centerpiece to build around, per the Athletic.

Spurs win No. 1 pick

Sports Brief recently reported on the Spurs winning the Wembanyama sweepstakes.

San Antonio got the No. 1 pick in the 2023 Draft Lottery on Tuesday night.

That sent Spurs fans into a frenzy as their team will have another generational big man in their lineup.
