NBABen Simmons Aims Subtle Dig at Joel Embiid and Sixers
- Ben Simmons appeared to direct a subtle jab at Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers
- He shared a photo of the 76ers getting beaten by the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals
- Simmons played four seasons with the Sixers, but things turned sour after the 2021 season
Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons seemed to enjoy his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers losing to the Boston Celtics in the playoffs in the second round.
The Celtics demolished Simmons' former team 112-88 in Game 7 to eliminate them from the playoffs.
The Nets guard posted a photo of his living room on his Instagram story, with his television showing the Sixers getting destroyed by the Celtics, and given his unceremonious exit from the franchise, it is unlikely he was rooting for an epic comeback.
The picture had no caption, just the screen displaying a 108-78 scoreline, per Sporting News. The game was ugly for his former team, who were down 30 at some point and scored only 10 points.
His former sidekick, Joel Embiid, had a forgettable game. He scored only 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting.
What happened between Sixers, Simmons?
Simmons was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2016 and came into the league with much promise. He even made a few All-Star teams, but things deteriorated between him and the franchise after the Game 7 loss in the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals, per CBS Sports.
Since then, the animosity between him and the Sixers has been visible. He requested a trade and then missed the entire 2021/22 season due to a back injury. He became public enemy number one in Philadelphia.
He was then traded to the Nets in exchange for James Harden. That season, he played just 42 games. He looked like a shell of himself, with his scoring, assists, rebounding, and free-throw shooting dropping significantly, per the Athletic.
