It was still a bittersweet moment for Williams since the Celtics won 114-102 to take a 2-1 series lead. Williams finished the game with no points.

The incident happened in the fourth quarter during a loose ball play. Williams and Celtics teammate Jaylen Brown were on the court, and Embiid unintentionally stepped on the back of Williams' head as he tried to jump over them.

Williams on Embiid stepping on his head

Williams felt Embiid, the 7-foot and 280 pounds center had no intentions of harming him, per the Athletic.

“I was like, dang, I really got curb stomped!” Williams told The Athletic. “I got curb stomped a little bit, but it wasn’t intentional. It’s the playoffs, so you expect battles like this. You expect to bleed, you expect to be elbowed. It’s nothing new. So for me, it was just like, get me back into the game as soon as possible.”

Williams said Embiid apologized during the game. Video emerged on social media of the newly crowned MVP.

"He apologized and things like that. I know Joel. He’s a great player, a phenomenal player, always great intentions. It was just a bang-bang play and I just wanted to make sure he knew I was good and we can move on.”

The Sixers center finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds, but Williams and the Celtics had the last laugh as they won the game, per USA Today.

Embiid calls out teammates

Sports Brief earlier reported on Embiid calling out some of his teammates after they lost Game 3.

His comments were perhaps directed at Harden, who had 16 points while shooting 3-of-14 from the field. The 2018 MVP had an incredible 45-point Game 1, but he's been poor in the last two games, going 5-for-28 from the floor.

Maxey shot just 4-of-16 from the field, while Tobias Harris attempted just six shots in 25 minutes.
