NBA analysts and pro-football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has claimed LA Clippers star Russell Westbrook has had a better career than Phoenix Suns veteran point guard Chris Paul.

Paul and Westbrook have been two of the best guards in the NBA in the last decade, and there have been debates about who was the better guard in the last decade.

Both stars are in their 30s, with Paul (37) slightly older than Westbrook (34).

Paul is one of the best pure point guards in NBA history. He has played 18 seasons in the NBA and averaged 17.9 points, 9.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 steals in 1,214 regular-season games, per Statmuse.

Meanwhile, Westbrook has played in 15 NBA seasons with five teams. He has averaged 22.4 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.3 rebounds in 1,094 regular-season games. He has nine All-Star selections. The Clippers guard has also won an MVP award.

He also has an NBA record of 198 triple-doubles, per Basketball Reference.

Neither Paul nor Westbrook have won the NBA championship. Both players were named in the Top 75 NBA players of all time.

Sharpe's take on Westbrook vs. Paul

Sharpe gave a controversial take, claiming Westbrook has had a better NBA career than Paul.

" I think it's Russ. because when I look at It, I thought Chrus Paul would be a great player in the NBA...I thought he would've delivered a championship...I went for Russ because when I watched him in college, and I see what he became, I think he's had a better career."

Paul and Westbrook will face each other in the playoffs this season when the Clippers and the Suns face off.

Fans' reactions to Westbrook vs. Paul debate

@BrooklynNetcast:

"He’s 100% correct, the discussion changes mattering on if CP3 wins a chip in the next 2 years though."

@GFGCompete:

"Chris Paul is the better PG Russ just a better athlete and the fact he still wasn’t a better defender then Chris at they peaks give me CP3 Also this is a hypothetical but if you put Chris on all russ teams I believe Chris could have found his way to at least one chip."

@PierreBless

"Agreed. He shattered an all time record with Triple Doubles and like CP3 also appeared in a NBA Finals."

@maconismyname:

"He’s won an mvp and avg a triple double for multiple years. Chris Paul is great, but Russ career has been better. It’s not a huge gap though."

@danno_omen:

"I think Paul is the better player but Westbrook has had the better career. Since neither have a ring atm Westbrook’s MVP > Paul’s accolades."

George wants Westbrook to win

Sports Brief earlier reported on Paul George saying he wants Westbrook to win an NBA title. Despite winning the 2017 MVP award, Westbrook's career has spiraled.

After leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2019, the nine-time All-Star is now playing for his fourth team in as many years.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2023 All-Star weekend, George praised his former teammate and said he would love to see him win the NBA title.
