The Mavericks acquired Irving ahead of the trade deadline, making them a serious title contender. The All-Star backcourt of Irving and Doncic will pose a threat to any team in the West, especially the Phoenix Suns, who acquired Durant.

The veteran forward teamed up with 2021 finalists Devin Booker and veteran point guard Chris Paul, completely changing the West.
Durant on Irving and Donic duo
Speaking during the All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Durant had nothing but praise for the duo, warning the rest of the league.
"It's going to be incredible. You see already the last game they played together, they lost, but they were down 20. In the fourth quarter, they both came out there, and Kyrie had 26 in the fourth, and Luka hit some big shots. So it's going to be like that. It's going to be tough to guard them," via SI.

Sports Brief earlier reported on Doncic explaining how he would play alongside Irving, who signed from the Nets a week ago.
He acknowledged he has never played with a ball-dominant player like the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard but is ready to play off the ball to accommodate him.
Doncic heaped praise on Irving, calling him the best ballhandler in the sport. However, it is clear the two stars are still learning to play together.
