FootballPaul George on Why LA Clippers' Championship Window Is Closing Fast
- Paul George has said that the Los Angeles Clippers needs to start playing with urgency
- The team is looking to challenge the NBA title this season but the window is shrinking
- George and Kawhi Leonard have so far failed to live up to the hype from signing in 2019
LA Clippers star, Paul George has said that his team's championship window is closing and they need to play with urgency now. Ty Lue's side has been plagued with injuries in the last few seasons.
George’s latest comments came after he returned to the Clippers’ line-up against the Philadelphia 76ers after missing 12 days with a sore right hamstring, with Kawhi Leonard also missing last season due to a partially torn ACL.
This is Leonard’s and George’s fourth season together with the Clippers and they are yet to bring the NBA title. However, Leonard didn’t play at all last season after knee surgery.
Many fans and analysts have called the Clippers' roster one of the deepest in the league, but injuries have stopped them from creating some chemistry.

Moreover, George and Leonard have shown they are capable of beating the best teams in the league. They went 27-10 when the two suited up together in the 2019/20 season, and had a 32-11 record in the 2020-21 regular season.
George on the championship window
The Clippers were expected to challenge the Lakers in the Western Conference, but the Lakers have been the successful team, winning the 2020 NBA titles.
They infamously blew a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets in the bubble and it is seen as the biggest failure of both Leonard and George, the latter of which commented their window is closing, per SI.

NBA“My window is shrinking to be a champion. That’s the biggest I think that’s the one word I can say to sum up the mindset going into this year.”
The 32-year-old stressed that injuries have crippled the team's continuity, per the Athletic.
“We’ve just been behind the ball just in terms of injuries and lineups and guys in and out. Urgency starts now. We’ve got to start playing with some desperation.”
The Clippers are 24-24 for the season and sit 8th in the Western Conference.
Kawhi Leonard on Clippers' struggles
Sports Brief earlier reported on Leonard recently saying the players were in a positive mood, despite losing nine of their last 12 games.
The two-time NBA champion added that the poor run is a good challenge for the team, who need to dig themselves out of a hole.
Leonard and George were tipped to deliver an NBA title to the Clippers when they signed in 2019, but the farthest they came was reaching the conference finals during the 2020/21 season.
