The iconic jersey of Los Angeles Lakers icon, the late great Kobe Bryant, is set to go up for auction next month for up to $7-million. Bryant wore the jersey in his only MVP season in 2007/08.
Bryant spent his entire NBA career with the Lakers and won five NBA championships, one MVP award and two NBA Finals MVP awards.
The worn by Bryant in his rookie season, including two playoff games, was sold at auction for $2.73-million in June last year, after the jersey had been kept for 25 years.
In 2021, another rookie jersey of Bryant - this one autographed - fetched $3.69-million, which was the highest price ever for a basketball jersey at that time, per ESPN.

The five-time NBA champion tragically died on January 26, 2020 in a California helicopter crash that also took the life of his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna and seven other passengers.
Bryant's jersey to be auctioned
According to CNN, the autographed jersey was worn by the Lakers legend more than 25 times during the 2007/08 season. Moreover, it is the same jersey he touches in a famous photo, during Game 2 of the first round in the playoffs that season.
Sotheby, the company set to handle the auction, said the jersey is influential not only in sports but also in popular culture.
“This jersey has influenced popular culture in a way that is seldom seen in the sports community, becoming iconic and synonymous with the image of Kobe Bryant. The fact that Kobe scored a total of 645 points over 8 months in this jersey, in his only MVP season, is simply stunning.”

Sports Brief earlier reported on retired NBA player, Jamal Crawford saying that the late great Bryant should be on the NBA logo.
Jerry West's silhouette has been on the NBA logo since 1969, but there have been recent suggestions that the LA Lakers star should appear instead.
Shortly after the NBA announced that the MVP trophy would be renamed the Michael Jordan trophy, Crawford said Bryant should be the new logo.
