LeBron James march to passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in NBA's All-time scoring continued as he joined the Lakers legend as the only player to score 38,000 or more points.

The 38-year-old has been on a tear in his 20th NBA season despite the Lakers persistent struggles. He is averaging 29 points per game, but his team are 13th in the Western Conference with a 19-24 record.

Barring any injuries, James will pass Abdul-Jabbar next month, cementing his legacy as one of the best players of all time. His consistency and production is unlikely to be matched in the NBA.

James scores 38,000th point

The former Miami Heat superstar eclipsed the mark with a midrange jumper from an assist from Russell Westbrook with 5:43 to play in the first quarter, giving him exactly 38,001 points in his career, per SI.

James entered Sunday’s game needing 11 points to reach the milestone.

James and Abdul-Jabbar are two of seven players in league history to eclipse 30,000 career points. They are joined by Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Michael Jordan (32,292), Dirk Nowitzki (31,560) and Wilt Chamberlain (31,419).

Abdul-Jabbar has been top of the ladder since 1984. If James maintains his career average of 27.2 points per game, he will surpass him on February 11th against the Golden State Warriors, per ESPN projections.

James compliment for Durant

Sports Brief earlier reported on James naming Kevin Durant as the active NBA player that can surpass his inevitable scoring record.

James said Durant is capable because of his versatility in scoring, whether from the midrange or from deep.

The Lakers superstar also said players like Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo could do it but all that matters is health, therefore availability on a nightly basis.
