  • The two-time NBA MVP injured his shoulder versus the Indiana Pacers in December last year

After nearly a month out with a shoulder injury, Stephen Curry could return earlier than expected for defending NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors.

Curry was expected to return to action later this week, but it seems his return date has been pushed up. The All-Star injured his shoulder on December 15 last year against the Indiana Pacers.

The two-time MVP went through contact five-on-five practice with the Warriors over the last few days, and has been wearing a sleeve over his left arm and shoulder.

Steve Kerr's team have gone 6-5 in the 11 games Curry has missed since suffering a left shoulder subluxation. The seven-time NBA champions won five straight games in their current homestand, per NBC Sports.

GSW are sixth in the Western Conference with a 20-20 record, and are hoping Curry's return could help them climb higher.

Likely return date for Curry

According to ESPN, the 34-year-old is set to return to the court on Tuesday and will likely be back for the team's matchup against the Phoenix Suns, which ends their eight-game homestand.

After practicing on Friday, Curry said he will play only if he feels ready.

"With this one, it's kind of about getting through as much of the testing phase as possible. So if I can get a few more reps in, then I'll be ready."

After they play a struggling Suns team, the Warriors embark on a tough five-game road trip where they face their 2022 NBA Finals opponent, Boston Celtics and Eastern Conference contender, Cleveland Cavaliers.

Curry on Jordan Poole struggles

Sports Brief earlier reported on Curry backing teammate Jordan Poole to overcome his struggles late in games.

The 23-year-old committed 70 turnovers since December 3, when he started 16 straight games for the Warriors. That is an average of 4.4 per game, the most in the NBA in that span.

"He’s got a long road ahead of him as being a guy who is going to finish games, and be a guy with the ball in his hands. He’ll figure that out," Curry commented.
