The former Miami Heat star is averaging 28.5 points per game this season and is inching closer to breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record for most points in NBA history.

ESPN projects that the future Hall of Famer will pass Abdul-Jabbar sometime in February and when that happens, it will be an earth-shattering moment in the NBA.

Abdul-Jabbar has held that record since 1984 and although James is considered one of the best of all time, he surely will be up there alongside Michael Jordan.

Against the Hawks, he showed no signs of slowing down. Lakers are now 15-21 for the season.

James speaks after incredible night

James took to social media to celebrate the special night and thanked everyone who sent him birthday wishes.

"That was one special Bday! Had a great time from start to finish. Thank you all for the bday wishes and vibes! Love!!"

With his performance vs the Hawks, James joins Michael Jordan as the only other player in NBA history to record at least 45 points, 10 rebounds and five assists at 38 years of age, per CBS Sports.

His 47 points is the third-highest for a player after turning 38 years old. The other two players are Jordan and Jamal Crawford, both of whom put up 51 points.

Durant congratulates James

Sports Brief earlier reported on Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant congratulating James following his masterclass vs the Hawks.

Durant just like many NBA stars was in awe of James's display which lifted the Lakers on the road.

After the game, the Nets' superstar sent out a Tweet reacting to this dominant 47-point performance for James.

"Masterful 47 I just watched, Lebron James. Masterful…GGz."
