Miami Heat icon Dwayne Wade, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and former LA Lakers center Pau Gasol are among the nominees for the 2023 Hall of Fame.

It will be one of the most high-profile classes especially if Popovich and Parker go together. They were part of San Antonio's dynasty which won four NBA rings. The nominees were released on Wednesday.

Heat icon Wade is a first-time nominee since he's been retired from the 2018/19 season. For one to be eligible for the HOF, a player must be fully retired for four full seasons.

Wade, 40, won three NBA titles with the Heat and was selected to the All-Star team 13 times.

Popovich has won the most NBA games as a coach and has constantly declined overtures from the HOF in the past. He and Parker won four NBA championships along with the Spurs' big three of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili.

Nowitzki led the Mavericks to their only NBA title in 2011, beating the Heat big three while Pau Gasol won two championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

2023 Hall of Fame class

According to Hoop Hall, finalists from the North American and Women’s committee for the Class of 2023 will be announced on Friday, February 17 during NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah, per Hoop Hall.

Nowitzki's statue will also be unveiled on Christmas Day to cap off a historic week for the German. He said getting i9nducted is a great moment for him, per ESPN.

"I mean, to top everything that has happened here the last couple years and words and accolades that have come my way, that will be the ultimate ... to be enshrined, hopefully, with the greatest in our game ever."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra will be coaching the US basketball team at the World Cup in the Philippines next summer. The ceremony will be held shortly before the tournament, per the Miami Herald.

“But I ain’t missing it. I ain’t missing it. I’ll fly back from wherever I have to fly back from for that weekend.”

Also, the 1976 U.S. Olympic women's team, and the 1982 Cheyney University women's basketball team are on the nominee list for the first time.

NBA name MVP trophy after Jordan

Sports Brief earlier reported on the NBA naming the MVP award after Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan.

For six decades, the trophy was named after Maurice Podoloff, the league's first commissioner.

The NBA announced on Tuesday, December 15th their decision to rebrand. Jordan is a five-time winner of the award, with the last one coming in 1998 when he led the Chicago Bulls to their last NBA Championship.
