  • The Detroit Pistons legend said Jordan treated him badly and never showed gratitude
  • The Jordan-Thomas feud has lasted for nearly 40 years with no hope of reconciliation

Detroit Pistons icon Isiah Thomas has detailed how Michael Jordan, his long-time adversary, was never grateful for his help when he first got to Chicago in the 80s.

Thomas and Jordan have a beef dating back to the 1980s, and the legendary Pistons point guard has reiterated in the past that until Jordan apologises to him, the rivalry will not end.

Their bitter rivalry was on full display in the 2020 documentary The Last Dance, which highlighted their feud. Thomas accused Jordan of playing a part in him missing the dream team.

Jordan ripped into Thomas and the Pistons' playing style, as well as the sportsmanship of the point guard, per SI.

During the dying moments of Game 4 of the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals, the Pistons walked away without shaking the hands of Chicago Bulls players, after Jordan and his team swept Detroit en route to their first championship.

Thomas' family helped Jordan

Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, the Pistons legend revealed how his family helped Jordan settle in the city of Chicago during his early days in the NBA, via Fadeaway World.

“My family took care of him, my sister and his brother hung out as friends. My lil nephew lived with Michael Jordan! I’mma say this again, my lil nephew lived with Michael Jordan. Now, I’m being extremely good to this dude, I’m calling his house, during this point of time.”

Thomas added that he doesn't understand why he's always seen as the villain, since it is Jordan who always had questionable character.

Before Jordan took over the NBA in the early 1990s, Thomas had beaten the six-time NBA champion three times in a row during the 'Bad Boys' era.

The two basketball giants have been retired for a long time and given they haven't patched things up until now, it is an ominous sign they will ever reconcile their differences.

NBA renames award after Jordan

Sports Brief earlier reported on the NBA renaming the MVP award after Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan.

For six decades, the trophy was named after Maurice Podoloff, the basketball league's first commissioner.

The NBA announced on December 15 their decision to rebrand in honour of Jordan, a five-time winner of the award, with his last MVP prize coming in 1998 when he led the Chicago Bulls to their last NBA title.
