South African Petrolheads Suggest Taxi to Race Formula One Grand Prix Car For F1 Mzansi PR Stunt

• With South Africa being considered for a Grand Prix Formula One race in the future, local petrolheads had an interesting suggestion should one ever come here
• If indeed a race was to held in the country, reportedly at the Kyalami Race Track, there was a suggestion that the F1 cars race a taxi there
• In 2019, Red Bull Racing held a publicity event where one of their cars driven by F1 legend raced against a taxi on the streets of Cape Town

South African motorsports racing enthusiasts have suggested that a Grand Prix Formula One car take on the (in)famous local taxi in a race.

This is as the country is being touted to host an F1 race in the near future.

According to Sport24, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was in talks with stakeholders in Mzansi about the possibility of the sport returning to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. IOL reported that this would be the first time Formula One would return to the country since 1993, won by Alain Prost driving a Williams-Renault. The late, great Ayrton Senna finished second in a McLaren-Ford, while Mark Blundell came in third in a Ligier-Renault.

Twitter user @Just_Zulu suggested the interesting aforementioned public PR stunt be considered that would put the country back on the motorsport map worldwide. This would hark back to when Red Bull Racing had F1 legend David Coulthard race against a Toyota Hi-Ace minibus on the streets of Cape Town's Central Business District in 2019 for a television advert.

The taxi was driven by comedian Jason Goliath accompanied by fellow comedian Sne Dladla as his co-driver.
