The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has since launched an inquiry into the race and will be speaking to everyone involved, including race director Michael Masi, SkySports confirmed.

The FIA, which is motorsport's governing body hopes to complete the inquiry by 3 February 2022. They have promised that the process will be thorough, objective and transparent.

Wheels24 have since confirmed that Lewis Hamilton's Formula 1 future depended on the outcome of the inquiry.

Support for Hamilton on social media has remained strong since the season ended, with many calling for an inquiry into the race from the moment the race ended.

"I'm so proud of all of you sir Lewis Hamilton fan's for keeping the pressure on and not dropping it because it's so obvious that the fia were hoping they could sweep it under the carpet otherwise they would have started to investigate before Monday!!!!"
