It was also the second time that both men fought in the EFC, with The Hawk winning the previous bout.

The first round proved to be quite an even affair, with Hokonya getting an early advantage with a leg sweep. The Hawk tried to maximise his top position, but Zwane remained calm before exploding off the ground.

He landed a few knees, which didn’t trouble The Hawk, but did give him something to think about.

Hokonya almost landed a knee of his own, but thankfully it didn’t land, as Zwane was on the ground, and it could have resulted in a disqualification.

Round 2

The second round saw The Hawk get a takedown to start, but once again he didn’t make the most of it.

Zwane got back to his feet, and the rest of the round saw both men trading shots in a more open fight.

While Hokonya did grab another takedown later in the round, he again did little with it, and the referee stood both men up.

Round 3

Zwane came out swinging in the third, looking like he knew he needed a finish to win the fight.

The Hawk looked more comfortable with his timing and tried to use his power to get another takedown, one that Zwane countered. The two men scrambled on the ground before going back to trading blows.

With less than two minutes to go, Zwane chose to showboat instead of finding a finish, which proved costly.

The fight went to the judges’ scorecards and all three gave it to Hokonya 29-28. Hokonya remained undefeated in the EFC as a result and booked his shot at the title.

He squared up against Kabesa in the cage, but the faceoff was respectful between the pair.
