Sanchez partners up with NPC

The 31-year-old, who will fight Vince Bembe at EFC 113, has partnered with the charity ahead of his fight.

Sanchez will be wearing a pair of pink shorts for his fight, promoting the work done by the charity and raising awareness for the disease.

The charity’s primary mission is to provide free breast examinations to South African women who are unable to access them due to financial, locational or social challenges, their website noted.

They also raise awareness for breast cancer and create support for those diagnosed with it.

Why Sanchez is raising awareness

Speaking ahead of his bout, the Capetonian explained that he would be partnering with the charity because breast cancer was something close to his heart.

“My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and it spread to her lymph nodes. She had it about three or four times, and it always came back,” he said.

With his mum now cancer-free, Sanchez wants to celebrate her victory in his next fight.

“We fighters get in a ring and fight, but those who are fighting cancers have the real battle. I just want them to know that there are people out there who back them and want to help them and see them through the whole process.
“I also would like to bring awareness to those who are healthy that they get themselves checked out to make sure they catch it early and that they can get themselves fixed up if need be,” he added.

How the unique partnership came about

While Sanchez is fighting for a good cause in pink shorts, the idea wasn’t his alone. He explained that he was chatting with the doctors at the Panorama Centre for Surgical Oncology in Cape Town, and they came up with the idea.

The centre, as well as every other Oncology centre, is affiliated with charity.

He thanked Dr Andre Vos, Dr Lizanne Langenhoven, and receptionist Hilani du Toit for all their assistance in making this possible.

“For me as a fighter, it won’t do much personally, but I want to be part of a good cause and spread awareness for something positive and be part of something positive,” he concluded.

Sanchez will compete in a Lightweight bout at EFC 113. The card will be headlined by Zaakir Badat and Jailson De Sousa, who will compete for the Welterweight title.

Sanchez produces stellar knockout at EFC 111

Sports Brief reported how Sanchez needed just over three minutes to win his fight at EFC 111.

The Capetonian knocked out Tapiwa Katikati in the very first round of their Lightweight bout.

Katikati looked more confident, but Sanchez was biding his time before landing the knockout blow.
