Dutch-Ghanaian fighter, Daniel Wadieh has disclosed that he considers well-known Irish Mixed Martial Artist Conor McGregor as his role model.
McGregor previously held titles as the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, making history as the first fighter to concurrently possess championships in two distinct weight categories within the UFC.
The 'Notorious' achieved significant triumphs in the octagon, amassing substantial wealth over a distinguished 15-year career, per TalkSPORT.
Wadieh, who is set to headline Ghana's Mixed Martial Arts campaign at the forthcoming 13th African Games, is rated one of the best young fighters in Africa.
And the Dutch-born fighter wants to be as successful as the iconic Irish fighter.
"Conor McGregor has changed the sport of MMA," Wadieh exclusively told Sports Brief.
"He showed that hard work and focus can get you to the top. His fight against Khabib was one of the first fights I saw before I got inspired also to start practising MMA."
Per CBS, the historic clash between McGregor and arch-nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 captivated the world of mixed martial arts and played a pivotal role in shaping the fighting aspirations of Wadieh.
According to Wadieh, who was 15 years old at the time of the bout, the intense showdown between the two legends convinced him to make a life-changing decision to become a fighter himself.
"I was young when I started developing an interest in MMA. McGregor's fight against Khabib was one of the first fights I saw before I got inspired to start practising MMA," Wadieh disclosed.
Born in Almere, the Netherlands, Wadieh maintains an unblemished record of victories across his four matches.
