UFC“He Doesn’t Reside in Africa”: Dricus Du Plessis Explains Comment About Adesanya
- South Africa's Dricus du Plessis will face Australia's Robert Whittaker for a shot at Israel Adesanya
- Adesanya is desperate to face du Plessis and wants to teach him a lesson for recent comments he made
- Du Plessis has explained his recent comments about being born in Africa and still living on the continent
Dricus du Plessis isn’t done with Israel Adesanya just yet.
The South African and the Nigerian-born Kiwi have been embroiled in a war of words, and du Plessis isn’t backing down from some of his previous comments.
The undefeated Middleweight upset the reigning champ when he said he would be the first to bring the UFC title back to Africa when he wins it.
Adesanya took offence to the comments, believing that du Plessis claimed to be more African than him.
As noted by MMA Junkie, the champion said he hoped du Plessis would keep winning so he could drag his carcass across South Africa.
BJ Penn reported that Du Plessis has now doubled down on his comments but explained that he wasn’t insulting The Last Stylebender.
“I have never said the words ‘more African’ in my life, I didn’t say they were not African, I stated facts,” Du Plessis said.
“I am the only one in title contention, ever, who was born in Africa, lives in Africa, and trains here every single day, I never backpedalled, I’m sticking with that because that is the facts, I don’t care how it came across,” Stillknocks added.
He also touched on the fact that his comment seem to have struck a nerve with the champion.
“At the end of the day, he was born in Africa, he is African, but he does not reside here. That is the fact. That’s what makes me and him different. My success is coming out of Africa,” du Plessis concluded.

BoxingWhat’s next for du Plessis?
The South African will next take on an Australian for a chance to fight a New Zealander.
Du Plessis will take on Robert Whittaker for the chance to fight Adesanya for the title later this year.
Adesanya's warning to du Plessis
The Last Stylebender is not happy with a fellow African middleweight in the UFC, Sports Brief has previously reported.
Adesanya knocked Pereira out at UFC 287 to reclaim his Middleweight title and then turned his focus to du Plessis.
The Nigerian-born fighter said he hoped the South African kept winning, so he would have a reason to beat him.
