The headline fight was the battle between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski for the Lightweight title.

The light heavyweights opened the pay-per-view, putting on a hard-hitting affair. The first round saw hometown fighter, Jimmy Crute, take on Alonzo Menifield. Crute used his submission game to great advantage as he dominated Menifield in the early exchanges.

The Australian took his opponent down to the ground and attempted to hook in a few submission holds. Once both fighters got to their feet, Menifield turned the tide. The American landed big shots that dropped Crute, but he survived until the end of the round.

Menifield landed a big shot to open round two, dropping Crute to the ground. The commentators also noted that Menifield had the advantage when it came to the stand-up and that Crute was getting picked off when he tried to trade.

Menifield tried to knock out his opponent. The American tried his best to score the knockout throughout the round, but the Australian held firm. Crute ended the round in a dominant position, attempting to hook in a rear naked choke toward the end.

With both heading into the third and final round, both fighters felt the effects of fast-paced early rounds. While grappling along the cage, Crute attempted a takedown which Menifield stopped by grabbing onto the cage. He immediately had a point deducted from him by the referee. The rest of the round saw Crute in a dominant position, but neither fighter threatened much in the final five minutes.

The Decision

The judges scored the fights 29-27, 28-28, and 28-28 as the fight was declared a majority draw.

The main event of UFC promised to be one to watch.
