Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze disclosed that he was close to joining London club Arsenal shortly after the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Chukwueze stated that the potential deal fell off as the Gunners could not agree with his academy.
The winger was part of the Golden Eaglets that conquered the world in Chile, scoring three goals at the tournament to win the Bronze Ball personally.
After the tournament, several clubs jostled to sign the teenager, including English Premier League giants Arsenal.

Chukwueze told El Peridoico Mediterraneo per Express:
“From the [2015] World Cup I went to Arsenal to sign a contract, but it got complicated because they didn’t reach an agreement with my academy.
“I went through Salzburg and Porto before being lucky enough to come to Villarreal. And I signed a pre-contract at the age of 17.
“They told me that I had to return at the age of 18 before signing the final contract as a professional. I said, ‘Okay, no problem.’ I returned to Nigeria and started training with my academy again.”
Chukwueze still on Arsenal’s radar
Meanwhile, Chukwueze has finally cleared the air on speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League. The Nigerian international claims he is happy to remain in Spain for now.
The 23-year-old has been linked with Arsenal since last year, with the Gunners' chiefs said to be preparing to make Villarreal an offer in the summer.

In a video shared on social media, the musician challenged Chukwueze to a dance-off, with the winger delivering smooth moves.
