Steven Gerrard Claims It Should Be Easy for Harry Kane to Leave Tottenham

Harry Kane's career is filled with accolades, awards, and records on an individual level but he is yet to achieve the aim of the sport, which is to win trophies.

He is Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top scorer, surpassing Jimmy Greaves weeks ago, and is also England's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney with his goal against Italy.

However, Kane's lack of trophies has placed a stigma on his career and his continued stay at Spurs has made many question his ambition, having fallen short in finals with the club.

According to Athletic UK, the 29-year-old was reportedly close to signing an extension of his current Tottenham contract, which expires in the summer of 2024, even though talks have cooled down lately.

Gerrard tells Kane to quit

Liverpool legend and former England international, Steven Gerrard has compared his situation at Anfield to Kane's current situation at North London.

Gerrard joined the Reds' academy at nine and spent all his career in Merseyside bar a one-year stint at MLS side, LA Galaxy.

Speaking to Channel 4, as quoted by Metro UK, he said Kane has an easier path out of Tottenham.

‘‘I don’t want to open a can of worms, but [Kane has] got a big decision to make, career-wise. I’ve been there myself, thinking, is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?’’ he said.

Gerrard then explained the situation had been different for him because he was a born and bred Red.

‘‘It was different for me because I grew up as a Liverpool fan, from the city, all my family were Liverpool. I knew that one trophy with Liverpool would have meant a lot more to me than being anywhere else."

He noted that Kane was not from Tottenham and had not come through the Spurs ranks.

"I can’t give him any advice on that, but I bet every single day of his life moving forward it’s going to be on his mind.’’

Kane joined Tottenham's academy in 2009, having had spells at other clubs including Arsenal. He has had three loan spells at Norwich City, Leyton Orient, and Leicester City.

The former Aston Villa manager never won a Premier League title. The closest Gerrard came was in 2014 but his slip in the 2-0 loss to Chelsea allowed Manchester City to win. He turned down an opportunity to join Chelsea many times.

Tottenham set Kane's asking price

Sports Brief reported that Tottenham are resigned to losing Kane this summer amid interest from other EPL clubs.

The team has now set an asking price of £100 million for their star forward amid interest from Man United.

Spurs had previously turned down a bid of that amount from Man City, who went on to sign Jack Grealish instead.
