Premier League refereeing was on the spotlight yet again on Saturday, March 18 as Tottenham blew a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against relegation-threatened Southampton.
After a fragmented first half, the game sprung to life in the second, with five goals being scored, including a controversial last minute Southampton penalty.
Tottenham’s Pedro Porro opened the scoring with a hammered shot into the roof of the net, but Southampton were back in the game 47 seconds into the second half thanks to Che Adams’ strike.
Harry Kane’s header and Ivan Perisic’s smart shot looked to have given Tottenham some daylight against their volatile opponents, but there was still more drama to come.

As reported on BBC, Theo Walcott, a former North Londoner with Arsenal, slotted in from Sekou Mara to make it 3-2, and with minutes of injury time to go, a contentious call was made by referee Simon Hooper.
Tottenham Pape Sarr inadvertently made contact with Maitland-Niles in the box, and a penalty was the result, with James-Ward Prowse slotting home for the Saints to claim an unlikely equalizer.

On social media, fans were unconvinced of the penalty as they felt Maitland-Niles should have instead been booked for simulation.
“I'm happy that Spurs has dropped points but that was never a pen,” One fan said.

Richarlison distraught after injury
Sports Brief also reported on how distraught Richarlison was after suffering an early injury against Southampton.
Video of the aftermath of the latest injury has since gone viral on social media, and it shows Richarlison in tears as Harry Kane tries to console him.
Eventually, Richarlison went to the stands, and was spotted sitting with his teammates on the bench.
