  • Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has come out to say Richarlison made a mistake with his comments after the team’s Champions League exit
  • Richarlison openly criticized the manager’s decision to consistently bench him despite being match fit
  • According to Conte, Richarlison, who is “scoring no goals” was “selfish with his comments

Antonio Conte has finally responded to his forward Richarlison’s recent explosive comments by sarcastically agreeing with the Brazilian that his season has been poor.

Richarlison, 25, appeared to criticize Conte in the post-match interview after a 0-0 draw against AC Milan in London confirmed Spurs’ exit from the Champions League.

Having splashed £60m for Richarlison’s services, it has not been a good return for Tottenham so far as the Brazilian has only two goals to his name, which have both come in the Champions League.

Against AC Milan on Wednesday, Richarlison was brought on for the final 20 minutes, but that did not seem to satisfy him as he went on a rant in his post-match interview.

“He is right”

Speaking at a presser on Friday, Conte agreed with Richarlison that his season had been poor, but somehow played down the narrative that the Brazilian was directly criticizing him.

"He is right", Conte said as quoted on BBC.
"He started well with us, he then had an injury and went to the World Cup and had another serious injury.
"He's scored zero goals with us [in the Premier League], only two goals in the Champions League and the guy was really honest to say his season was not good.
Conte went on to add: “If he deserves to play I'll give him the opportunity."

"I think [the] guy understood he made a mistake because when you speak with I, I and I, not 'us', it means you are thinking only about yourself and you are selfish.
