Antonio Conte Offers Christian Eriksen Career Lifeline After Midfielder Was Released by Inter

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has expressed his willingness to allow Christian Eriksen to train with the club as the Denmark international targets to feature in the 2022 World Cup.

In June 2021, Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in the Euros in their opening group game against Finland.

Describing his ordeal, Eriksen admitted recently that he ‘died for five minutes’.

The 29-year old has since been fitted with an implanted cardioverter defibrillator, a move that rendered him ineligible to play in the Serie A.

Having been released by Inter Milan, Eriksen is now looking for a new club, and Conte, his former boss at Inter, hailed him as a “top man”.

When asked if Eriksen could train with Tottenham, Conte said:

"For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.

"What happened this summer was very not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him. I was scared in that moment.

"And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open."

The Italian manager was speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s FA Cup third-round tie with Morecambe.

Conte has warm memories with Eriksen as the pair worked together to help Inter lift their first Serie A title in a decade last season.

Eriksen has been filmed kicking the ball on his own as he takes on individual training sessions in the hopes of signing for a new club.

At the moment, one of his primary targets is to prove he is still in top gear ahead of the World Cup in November.
