FootballSupersport United Face a Tough Second Half to the Season, Team Are Without Leading Goal Scorer Bradley Grobler
- Bradley Grobler was last season's golden boot winner but will miss the rest of this season due to an injury
- Supersport United will play the second half of the season without Bradley Grobler and Teboho Mokoena
- Supersport United are only 4 points away from Orlando Pirates and still have a chance to finish in the top 3 this season
Supersport United go into the second half of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season without their star striker and their talismanic midfielder.
Last season's Golden Boot winner, Bradley Grobler, has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season due to injury while Teboho Mokoena starts the second half of the season as a Mamelodi Sundowns player.
Matsatsantsa a Pitori currently finds themselves sixth on the DStv Premiership log, four points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates. Supersport has also played two games less than the Buccaneers.
Their next game is on Tuesday, 15 February when they take on Maritzburg United. Supersport's push for the top two will be hampered by the absence of Grobler, though. Grobler has been ruled out for the rest of the season and requires surgery for undisclosed injuries, Sport24 reported.
The striker scored 16 goals in the 2020/2021 season and was looking forward to trying to replicate that this season.
As Sowetan LIVE reported, Grobler admitted that it was frustrating not being able to defend his Golden Boot title, after breaking his ribs and contracting Covid19.
Supersport CEO Stan Matthews said that they would not rush the player back from injury and were focused on having him back fully healthy for the next season, Soccer Laduma stated.
Grobler's market value has also fallen since his time on the bench. The South African confirmed that Grobler was now valued at $500 000, dropping $75 000 since his injury.
Matsatsantsa will be relying on Grobler's strike partner, Thamsangqa Gabuza, to continue finding the back of the net as they push for a strong finish.
