FootballFormer Super Eagles Star Recalls Moment Nigerian Policeman Told Him Gun Is His ID Card
- John Ogu has revealed how a member of the Nigerian policeman force showed him his rifle as his identification
- The midfielder represented the country's senior national team for more than six years and was part of the team that won AFCON bronze in Egypt two years ago
- yet, all of these didn't count as the uniformed men still harassed and intimidated him withh their guns
Former Nigeria international John Ogu has recounted his experience with a member of the Nigerian Police Force telling him that his gun is his mode of identification.
The three-time Israeli Premier League winner made the comment on his social media platform during the one year remembrance of the innocent citizens murdered in clod blood in October 2020.
What John Ogu said
He said the uniformed man asked for his identification and he simply told him his name is the only ID he had but the policeman was angered by his response, adding that he showed his gun as his mode of ID. Ogu said in his post on social media that:
"A police man asked me for my ID card one night and I said I do not have, and that my face and name is my ID card.
"He later was yelling after I asked him his own and man literally showed me the gun he was carrying as ID card."
Meanwhile, one year after young Nigerians protested police brutality in the country, nothing has changed as the police remains the same - intimidating and brutalising citizens they are given to protect.
Ogu broke into the country's senior national team in 2013 and made 26 appearances for them across competitions.
Confusion over Ahmed Musa's caps for Nigeria
Legit.ng earlier reported that Ahmed Musa became Nigeria's most capped player after featuring in the Super Eagles' 2-0 FIFA World Cup qualifier win over Central African Republic last week.
The 29-year-old has now taken over from pacesetters Vincent Enyeama and Joseph Yobo who were the first to achieve the 100th cap feat.
Though, the world football governing body already admitted that the Nigerian captain has made 101 appearances for his national team, CAF, the African football body claims he has 102 caps to his name.
