16 Nigerian Players Sent Home From Camp of Under 23 Olympic Eagles

• Nigeria's Olympic Eagles are currently preparing for their AFCON qualifiers against Guinea this month
• Ahead of the two fixtures, 16 players have been asked to leave the team camp due to allegations of age fixing
• Kwara United winger Ahmed Jimoh is reportedly among players who had issues with their documentation

16 Nigerian players have been sent home from the camp of the Under-23 national team due to age discrepancies, ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea.

Last week, Salisu Yusuf - the coach of the side known as the Olympic Eagles - invited 30 players to the training camp to prepare for the double-header against their fellow west Africans.

Most of these players are campaigning in the Nigerian Professional League and the country's second tier division, the National League.

For the past few days, they have been training at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. However, the Nigeria Football Federation chiefs have concluded thorough checks on these players' documentation and noticed some things were wrong.

This resulted in the 16 players being dropped from the squad.

Which Nigerian players were dropped?

Although the names of the players have not been confirmed, Sports Brief has learned that some had conflicting ages based on their passport information and the details attached to their Domestic Transfer Matching System (DTMS) details.

One of the players who was dropped is Ahmed Jimoh of Kwara United, who told Sports Brief that he left the camp on March 14 and returned to Ilorin, in the Kwara State.

"What they told me was that the information on my passport is different from the data on my TMS and I was asked to leave the camp immediately. Myself and other players invited all left the camp," he stated.

However, Jimoh still wished the Olympic Eagles well in the qualifiers.

Sports Brief previously reported on former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George leading Enyimba to victory in the final of the 2023 Abia State FA Cup, beating Ahudiya 4-1.

En route to the final, Ahudiya defeated Abia Warriors in the semi-final and fans were expecting another major upset in the last match against the non-league Enyimba.

The match started according to these expectations, with Ahudiya players ahead in the first half-hour but Enyimba started gaining momentum as the match progressed.
