Victor Osimhen Expresses Sadness Over the Death of Christian Atsu

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has expressed sadness over the untimely death of former Ghanaian international, Christian, Atsu who died in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February.

Football fans in Ghana and many other parts of the world are still coming to terms with the death of the footballer, whose body was recovered almost two weeks after the disaster hit.

Initial speculation that Atsu had been found alive was denied by his agent, while others believed the Ghanaian would be rescued from under the rubble.

After almost two weeks of searching, Atsu's body was recovered from his collapased apartment building and he was flown to his home country for final funeral rites.

According to the report by Soccernet, Osimhen described Atsu as a brother to him.

Osimhen: I lost a brother

Referencing the sale of footballers' jerseys to raise funds for earthquake victims, Osimhen said:

"The earthquakes in Turkey? I don’t know how much my jersey was sold for; even my teammates like Bartosz Bereszynski and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sold their jerseys."

He then extended his condolences to families of those who had lost loved ones in the disaster.

"I also lost an African brother in these earthquakes, Christian Atsu from Ghana."

Osimhen is among the many Africans who continue to shine in the European leagues, honouring Atsu and the continent with their impressive performances.
