Akpoborie has now suggested the forward can get into the ranks of great strikers, if he can maintain his full fitness.

He told Complete Sports:

“I have always admired Victor Osimhen right from his Golden Eaglets days. He’s a player who loves scoring goals regardless of the situation."

Akpoborie singled out the impact and goal-scoring ability the striker had brought to Napoli this season, and also mentioned Osimhen's role in taking his side top of the Serie A standings.

“...I want to believe that Osimhen has the potential to be a deadly striker and I pray he stays injury-free.”

Romelu Lukaku hails Victor Osimhen

Meanwhile, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has hailed Osimhen, ahead of the epic Inter Milan versus Napoli showdown.

Both sides will clash at the San Siro Stadium on Wednesday, January 4, with much at stake for both in-form teams.

Lukaku has not been at his best for the Nerazzurri, but has lauded Nigerian star Osimhen for his fine run of form for the Partenopei.

Napoli offer Osimhen contract extension

Sports Brief earlier reported that Italian giants Napoli are prepared to offer Osimhen a massive contract extension, as the Nigerian international continues to shine in Naples.

Newcastle United saw their €100m bid rejected in January 2021, and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is now working on the renewal of Osimhen’s contract.

The former Lille striker has been fantastic for Gli Azzurri this season and has established himself as a prolific centre-forward.
