Some ex-internationals have received keys to three-bedroom bungalows, which were promised to them by the Nigerian Federal Government in 1994.

National heroes like Finidi George, Ike Shorunmu and Mutiu Adepoju have all been handed the properties by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

Akin Amao, who served as a team doctor at the time, was also a beneficiary of the national housing project as well as Adewale Adesokan.

Fashola said, as per Punch:

“The beneficiaries are among the first set of Nigerians, including the 1994 Super Eagles, who would be handed keys to their houses that was promised by the Federal Government over 28 years ago."

Fashola described the process as 'entering a season of completion' and explained the handover of keys would take place across 35 states, to Nigerians who had successfully subscribed through the open ministry's website.

Adepoju, who is fondly called ‘Headmaster’ thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for fulfilling such a gesture.

He said:

“I just have to be thankful to God and President Buhari for doing this during our [lifetime]. 28 years; I am happy and thank God for the honour.”

Shorunmu added:

“I’ve never lost any hope in my country because if do, I would have relocated to Europe.”

Oliseh alleges gang-up against Yekini

Sports Brief earlier reported that the book Audacity to Refuse by Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh continues to generate controversy, after it was published on April 10, 2021.

The book traces Oliseh's untold insider story, from being a young footballer in Nigeria to starring for some of Europe’s greatest clubs.

He had alleged in the book that there was a gang-up by senior members of the Super Eagles against Rashidi Yekini before the World Cup in 1994.
