  • Cristiano Ronaldo was captured shedding tears after Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup
  • The Portuguese captain dashed down the tunnel in tears as he likely made his final World Cup appearance
  • Legendary Jay Jay Okocha has urged CR7 to accept his fate, adding that some things are not meant to be

Former Nigerian international Jay Jay Okocha has suggested that some things are not meant to be after Portugal crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

North African side Morocco put up a sensational performance to defeat the Selecao 1-0, ending Ronaldo’s dreams of winning a World Cup title.

Okocha, who is on punditry duty with broadcast station SuperSport saw how the football icon likely made his final World Cup appearance.

Portugal were one of the favourites to win the tournament in Qatar, but they were knocked out in the quarter-final following a Youssef En-Nesyri header in the 42nd minute.

And Ronaldo was caught leaving the stadium in tears as Okocha advises the former Manchester United striker to accept his fate and wipe out his tears.

Okocha said, as per Soccernet:

“Oh yes! We’ve seen it in this tournament. A lot of stars have cried because they knew this could be their last chance of playing in the World Cup.
“We saw Suarez and now Ronaldo. What a fantastic career he has had. He’s an icon but I mean, some things are not meant to be.
“I don’t think that it was meant for him to win the World Cup because they had everything. But credit to Morocco.”

Cristiano Ronaldo will be 41 years old when the next edition of the World Cup kicks off in another four years.

Pepe blames referee

Sports Brief earlier reported that Portugal defender Pepe has come out to sensationally blame the match referee for his nation’s shock exit from the World Cup, at the hands of surprise packages Morocco.

Morocco, despite going down to 10 men, did excellently well to hold on to their 1-0 lead as they maintained an impressive record of having only conceded once in five World Cup games so far.

After the game, media caught up with 38-year-old Pepe, who had nothing to lose now that Portugal was out of the competition.
