An official from the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that the football body owes Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro.

It is believed that Peseiro, employed in May 2022, has not received a single paycheck since he took up the job.

According to a report by Daily Post, NFF officials are now working around the clock to ensure the manager is paid.

The NFF chiefs are reportedly working hard to avoid that scenario and will look to pay the former Saudi Arabia coach this week.

A prominent NFF official told BBC Sport Africa:

“We’ve heard from Mr Peseiro’s representatives that he only received his allowances and bonuses, which is very disturbing."
“His salary is being paid by the Sports Ministry but we’ve quickly made an alternative arrangement, in conjunction with the Ministry, to sort the salary payments this week.”

Peseiro targets AFCON 2025 title

Meanwhile, Peseiro has disclosed that the main goal for his team is to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria.

Sports Brief reported that Nigeria crashed out of AFCON 2021 in the second round, after losing 1-0 to North African side Tunisia.

The next edition of the continental showpiece is slated for Ivory Coast in January 2024, and Peseiro has stated his plan is to lead the Eagles to the title.

Sunday Oliseh hints at coaching Super Eagles again

Sports Brief earlier reported that the former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh had stated that he could still return as the coach of the Super Eagles, if his terms and conditions are met by NFF chiefs.

The NFF are the ones in charge of all football matters in Nigeria and are saddled with the responsibility of hiring coaches for the country's teams.

Oliseh was hired as the Super Eagles coach in 2015 by the former NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, but the gaffer tendered his resignation within a year.
