Nigerian international Alex Iwobi had a poor Africa Cup of Nations and he was away on international duty when Frank Lampard was appointed as the Everton manager.

The former Arsenal man has narrated how the tactician helped him in overcoming the AFCON debacle as he finds his form again.

Since moving to Everton, Iwobi has worked under several managers including Carlo Ancelotti, and Rafael Benitez, but he could not break into the first team.

Iwobi told EvertonTV:

“He (Lampard) got appointed while I was at AFCON, so when I got back I feel like he didn’t really know what to expect from me especially from what he’d seen under other managers, and after the red card at AFCON.
“But coming back, he said he was a bit surprised at how I train; I’m decent in training and always give 100%; it’s just about getting that out in matches. He told me to play the way I train and express myself, so he gave me that confidence.
“Ever since then, it’s been working out in different positions; I can’t say where my best position is! But he’s tried me in different positions and it’s worked out.
“They’re [the staff] easy to talk to. Ashley Cole, Paul Clement, Joe Edwards – they’re all good not just to me but everyone. They make it feel like it’s one big family; it’s a nice feeling.”

Antonio Nosa equals Champions League record

Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigerian descent Antonio Nusa has equalled a Champions League record following his goal as Club Brugge whitewashed FC Porto 4-0.

The teenager came on as a substitute with just 15 minutes left on the clock and then grabbed his side’s fourth goal in the 89th minute to seal a comfortable win.

After scoring on his Champions League debut at 17 years and 149 days, Nusa becomes the second-youngest goalscorer in Champions League history.
