Jose Poseiro has promised to work with great ambition to restore Nigeria back to its glory days in football after his appointment as the Super Eagles manager was confirmed.
The Nigeria Football Federation had on Sunday, May 15 announced the Portuguese manager as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, replacing Augustine Eguavoen who had been relieved of the position.
Poseiro in a post on social media app Twitter, the 62-year-old expressed pride in being appointed as Nigeria’s coach and vowed to make the Super Eagles champions again.
“Pride! It is with great pride and joy that I am the coach of one of the greatest football nations in the world.
“Commanding the Super Eagles starts with knowing how to respect history, value it and be inspired by its roots.”
Jose Poseiro is expected to begin his role as the Super Eagles manager when he leads Nigeria against Mexico and Ecuador in her upcoming international friendlies in the United States of America.

Meanwhile, Jose Poseiro has set himself a target of winning the African Cup of Nations in his first statement as the Super Eagles coach Pulse Sports reports.
The 62-year-old manager's career as a football manager has been generally unsuccessful, with his solitary trophy being the Portuguese league cup won with Braga between 2012 and 2013.
Poseiro will have a tough job on his hands as the Super Eagles were last crowned champions of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 when Steven Keshi led Nigeria to the title in South Africa.

Jose Poseiro has had largely unsuccessful spells as a football manager, with his only trophy being the Portuguese league cup which he won with Braga between 2012 and 2013.
Chukwu, who likened Poseiro to Clemens Westerhof, beckoned on supporters of the Super Eagles not to write off the Portuguese coach’s chances of achieving with the senior national team.
