  • Chinedu Obasi hopes the Super Eagles will be able to soar above the Black Stars of Ghana in the upcoming World Cup playoffs
  • Obasi's Nigeria will battle for supremacy against Ghana and most importantly one of the five tickets for Africa at this year's World Cup later this month
  • Nigeria will face Ghana at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 25 before heading to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja for the reverse fixture four days later

Former Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi has called out the Super Eagles to rise to the occasion when it matters the most ahead of the all-important World Cup playoffs.

Nigeria and their eternal enemies Ghana will trade tackles for the umpteenth time, this time around for a slot at the 2022 World Cup.

With the Black Stars failing to shine at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations coupled with a makeshift technical team, many argue the latest battle of the two West African giants might just swing in favour of Nigeria.

But sharing his opinion ahead of the game, Chindedu Obasi contends occasionally his nation fails to come clutch in such tough encounters but hopes this time around Augustine Eguavoen's charges will come good.

"I see it as a brotherly competition where each side seeks to win the bragging rights regardless of the friendship between the two nations." He told Accra-based Starr FM.
Obasi continued: "Special games require special character so I am just hoping they deliver against Ghana because sometimes Nigeria doesn't deliver when you put trust in them."

Reminiscing about his exploits at the global showpiece, Chinedu was grateful for representing his nation at the FIFA World Cup in 2010 - which was the first time Africa hosted the Mundial.

"There is nothing as fulfilling as representing your country at the FIFA World Cup. It’s a special feeling and the dream of every player. I am glad I played at the 2010 World Cup."

Defiant Obasi stands by his 2014 bribery allegations but remains tight-lipped on faces behind the saga

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Super Eagles striker Chinedu Obasi has stated that he stands by his comments on the 2014 World Cup bribery allegation but will not name names.

The 34-year-old also disclosed that he never meant to escalate the situation as it is, adding that going into details of the whole drama will seem like he is personally attacking someone.

He earlier claimed that his refusal to pay bribe was responsible for his omission from Nigeria's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad in Brazil.
