Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o has stated that Nigeria’s Jay Jay Okocha deserves to be rated as high as Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho, Soccernet reports.
Eto’o and Ronaldinho were teammates at Spanish club Barcelona, but the Cameroon FA president believes Okocha remains one of the most gifted footballers of this generation.
Despite his exploits, Okocha never won the Africa best Player Award, but Eto’o who won the same prize four times says the Nigerian was as talented and magical as Brazilian great Ronaldinho Gaucho.
Okocha enjoyed a successful career spanning about two decades inspiring the Super Eagles to an AFCON glory in 1994 as well as the Olympic gold medal in 1996.

FootballJay Jay also played with Ronaldinho at French club Paris Saint-Germain, with the Brazilian also admitting to have learnt a lot from the master dribbler.
Ronaldinho went on to win two FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon d’Or, while Okocha never came close to claiming any of those global honours before calling time on his career in 2008.
Eto’o feels there was an injustice against the former Super Eagles captain in his latest comments to Onvoitout:
“It’s the injustice of world football.
“What we saw Ronaldinho do a few years ago, Jay-Jay (Okocha) had done 10 or 15 years before and he never had the recognition of others. And that’s what happens when it comes to Africa.”
At the latter stages of his brilliant career, Okocha was voted BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2003 and 2004.
Meanwhile, Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o were recently spotted together as a clip made the rounds on social media.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has finally revealed Brazilian legends Ronaldinho Gaucho and Ronaldo De Lima Nazario as his football idols.
The Portugal captain admitted he grew up watching the pair while acknowledging they have both left their legacy and history in the football world forever.
The 37-year old revealed he had dreams of emulating the feat of both players while growing up and indeed the Ex-Real Madrid forward can boast of having achieved that and more.
