  • Mamelodi Sundowns' coronation as the repeat-kings of the DStv Premiership continued as they defeated Sekhukhune United 2-0 at Ellis Park on Tuesday night

  • The win moved the all-conquering Sundowns to 61 points, while Shalulile came to within three goals of the Premier Soccer League record of 25 in a league campaign

Mamelodi Sundown's juggernaut continued despite having already been crowned the 2021/22 DStv Premiership champions.

Shalulile's goal was his 22nd of the season, moving to within three of the record that Collins Mbesuma set in the 2004/05 season in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs. The win also took Sundowns up to 61 points with three matches left in the season.

The loss might have just put paid to United dreams of finishing in the Top 8, and thus, qualifying for next season's MTN 8 tournament. The team remained in 10th place on 31 points, an awkward five points off eighth place as it failed to win a fifth consecutive match.

Next on Sundowns' parade is Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening in Tshwane. United's next assignment is against Amazulu, also on Saturday afternoon in Durban.
