18-year-old Giorgio Scalvini scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes before halftime. AS Roma will feel hard done by the result given that they were the dominant side in the game.
Scalvini scored his second senior goal before Tammy Abraham spurned two glorious chances to restore parity.
Roma's bad evening started when Paulo Dybala had to withdraw from the squad with injury with Nicolo Zaniolo taking his place. Zaniolo scored his usual ability to turn the game around but Roma lacked the finishing touch.
Zaniolo was felled in the box in the second-half but centre referee Daniele Chiffi waved off penalty appeals from an incensed Roma side. It was here where Mourinho was sent off after he stormed into the pitch to voice his frustrations.
