AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho joined the rest of the world in mourning the death and celebrating the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who sadly passed away last evening at the age of 96.

Mourinho reserved a couple of minutes in his press conference following Roma's defeat to Ludogorets, to pay homage to the Queen who he says was a 'wonderful' figure for the United Kingdom.

Mourinho's special relationship with the UK

Mourinho was speaking to Sky Italia after his team suffered defeat in the Europa League. Her Majesty's death was confirmed by the Royal Family on Thursday evening and tributes and condolences from around the globe keep pouring in.

The 59-year-old tactician is a three-time Premier League winner. He has coached top clubs in England like Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese manager is joined by many football clubs in paying tribute to the Queen who peacefully died after leading the UK for seven decades.

The two-time Champions League winner has managed 551 games in England and stressed that the UK is his home.

I'm so sorry. I'm not a foreigner in England, it's my home, my family's. A figure who is respected by everyone in the world disappears, a great lady, as well as a queen.

The Premier League suspended this weekend's games as a sign of respect to the Queen and the Royal Family.
