“Following an injury sustained during training on Sunday afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg,” Roma confirmed in a statement.
“The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days. FORZA GINI!”
Further reports indicate Wijnaldum has opted to undergo surgery on Monday to speed up his recovery process.
Injuries such as fractured tibia’s could take months to fully recover, but at the moment, there is no timeline on how long Wijnaldum will be out.
The Dutch international will however hope to regain his fitness in time for the World Cup.
Wijnaldum played 38 times for PSG last season, but was rarely used for Champions League outings.
In truth, he was a shadow of his Liverpool days, as he made an impressive 237 appearances as a Merseysider and was crucial in Jurgen Klopp’s recent success.
