Real Madrid will face an uphill task in their bid to lift the FIFA Club World Cup after seeing their squad being ravaged by injuries ahead of the competition.
The reigning La Liga champions who face Al Ahly in the semifinals on Wednesday, February 8, are set to jet out to Morocco without five key players owing to various degrees of injuries.
According to Football Espana, Karim Benzema and Eder Militao have both suffered injuries, while Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy have been ruled out for much of February.

David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni have also failed to recover from their injuries picked up two weeks ago while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also pulled out of the loss to Mallorca through injury.
None of the injured players will travel with the rest of the Real Madrid squad to Morocco for the Club World Cup although there is hope Benzema and Courtois could recover in time to join the team in North Africa.

Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois could be available for selection for Real Madrid if the La Liga champions qualify for the Club World Cup final, Marca reports.
The Belgian goalkeeper underwent tests on Monday morning after missing out on Real Madrid's game against Real Mallorca on Sunday following a late injury scare.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Thibaut Courtois has been forced out of Real Madrid’s game at Mallorca after sustaining an injury during the warm-up.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper was set to start in Real Madrid’s La Liga match at Son Moix before the knock ruled him out.
Courtois will undergo tests tomorrow to see the extent of the injury to see if he can travel with Real Madrid to Morocco for the Club World Cup.
