Legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has deleted a tweet in which he claimed he was coming out as gay.
The former Spain captain earlier posted a short message on the social media platform on Sunday afternoon, saying:
I hope you respect me: I’m gay.”
However, Spanish publication AS, cited by the Sun, claim he has posted this as a way for the tabloids to stop writing about his personal life.

FootballCasillas later said his Twitter feed was hacked after a tweet from his account had claimed he was coming out as gay.
He tweeted: "Account hacked. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course more apologies to the LGBT community."
It comes a little over a year after the retired goalie split from his wife Sara Carbonero.
Casillas and the sports journalist divorced in March 2021 after five years of marriage, they have two children together.
Casillas' post on Twitter comes just days after he furiously shut down rumours that he is dating Shakira.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Casillas recently followed the Colombian singer on Instagram, which then fuelled speculation that the pair were an item.
The former Los Blancos keeper was then quick to take to social media to dismiss the rumours that he was dating the Grammy Award winner.

FootballGerard Pique has come under fire since the news of his infidelity broke, and matters worsened when he was spotted dating a 23-year-old student shortly after separating from Shakira, Sports Brief had earlier reported.
His very public and messy separation also angered his club. Barca were unhappy that his personal life dominated headlines while he still represented them as a player.
Fans have also targeted Piqué for his actions. During Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States of America, fans shouted ‘Shakira Shakira’ every time the defender touched the ball, Marca reported.
