Real Madrid Legend Marcelo Welcomes Former Teammate James Rodriguez to Olympiacos

  • The Colombia international has joined the 47-time Greece champions on a one-year loan deal
  • The 31-year-old will join his former Real Madrid teammate Marcelo at the Piraeus outfit

Marcelo Vieira has welcomed former Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez to Olympiacos.

James has reportedly signed a season-long loan contract with the Greece giants from Qatar's Al Rayyan.

The loan deal will see the Colombia international stay with Olympiacos through to the end of the 2022-23 season.

The deal was completed on Thursday morning, with the Colombia international's salary shared between both clubs.

According to AS Diario, Olympiacos will pay 40% of the player’s salary with the Qatari side picking up the tab for the remainder of his salary.

James has now reunited with his former colleague Marcelo as Olympiacos look to make an impact in Europe.

The duo played together for four years at Santiago Bernabeu, winning one La Liga and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

"So happy to be back with you bro Welcome @jamesrodriguez10 !!! Let’s go guys!!," Marcelo posted on Facebook.

A raucous crowd of about 20,000 fans trooped to the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium to welcome their new signing Marcelo, Sports Brief earlier reported.

As the 34-year-old made his way onto the field, the charged fans at the stadium chanted his name and lit flares to welcome their new star.

Olympiacos sports director and former Real Madrid defender Christian Karembeu escorted Marcelo to the stadium after he arrived with his wife and two sons at the Athens International Airport.
