Marcelo Oliviera has been officially unveiled to Olympiacos fans at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in front of 20,00 fans on Monday, September 9.

The former Real Madrid captain was wearing the same number 12 he wore at the Santiago Bernabeu for the past 16 years on his back.

As the 34-year-old made his way onto the field, the charged fans at the stadium chanted his name and lit flares to welcome their new star.

Olympiacos sports director and former Real Madrid defender Christian Karembeu escorted Marcelo to the stadium after he arrived with his wife and two sons at the Athens International Airport.

“Thank you. I am very happy and satisfied. My family too. I hope to help the team with great devotion,” Marcelo told the fans, adding in Greek, “Let’s go, Olympiakos!”

Olympiacos signed Marcelo on a one-year deal, with an option for an additional year, after he was club-less since he left Real Madrid in July this year.

The Brazilian brought his 15-year trophy-laden spell with Los Blancos Madrid to an end this summer.

Sports Brief had earlier reported that legendary Real Madrid defender Marcelo Vieira is considering announcing his retirement from the game after receiving a series of offers that failed to attract him.

The Brazilian brought his 15-year trophy-laden spell with the Spanish giants to an end this summer and is currently unattached.

The 34-year-old, who is currently still on vacation, has been offered to a host of clubs in La Liga, Serie A, Qatar and the MLS as he seeks new pastures.
