Real Madrid have failed to offload striker Mariano Diaz and the Spanish forward is set to maintain his place as part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the 2022/23 football season.

The 28-year-old has been declared surplus to requirement at Real Madrid after only making only 399 minutes of game-time in the 2021/22 season across 11 appearances, scoring one goal and assisting another.

According to Madrid Universal, no club showed any interest in signing Mariano Diaz’s from Real Madrid despite the €0 price tag on the forward with the transfer window set to shut on September 1.

Mariano signed a five-year contract with Los Blancos when he returned to the club in 2018 and it ends next June when he will be a free agent.

The former Lyon forward has not played a single minute so far this season as Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti does not rely on him.

Almeria plotting late swoop for Diaz

Meanwhile, Mariano Diaz could still be in for a last-minute move away from Real Madrid as fellow La Liga side, Almeria has signaled their interest in the forward.

According to The Hard Tackle, Almeria wants to secure the services of the Real Madrid forward once top forward, Umar Sadiq completes his exit from the newly promoted La Liga side.

Mariano Diaz is way down the pecking order of strikers at Real Madrid behind the likes of Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Real Madrid have already sold five players during the transfer window and don’t look to be stopping there.

Los Blancos parted ways with Borja Mayoral, Takefusa Kubo, Miguel Gutiérrez, Víctor Chust and one of the club’s legends, Casemiro.

While the La Liga champions have no immediate plans to bring in new faces, they are willing to part with two new players. Madrid Universal reported that Real is still trying to sell Álvaro Odriozola and Mariano Díaz.
