Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has opened up on why he did not pursue Erling Haaland. Haaland was viewed as a top target for top European clubs and at one point, Real Madrid was expected to bid for the striker.
Haaland has since joined Manchester City after the English Champions activated his release clause. Perez has now explained why they were not interested in the Norwegian.
The head honcho sensationally claimed in an interview with El Chiringuito, as quoted by Managing Madrid, that they already have the best striker in the world and Haaland would have had to contend with a place on the bench.
The said number nine is Karim Benzema, who has delivered breathtaking performances this season and is well on his way to winning the Ballon d’Or. Benzema led Madrid to the Champions League and La Liga victories.
