  • Carlo Ancelotti became the first manager ever to lift the European Cup four times after Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Saturday's final.
  • All of Ancelotti's European Cup wins have come since the tournament was rebranded as the Champions League in 1992.
  • Ancelotti led AC Milan to glory in 2003 and 2007, before conquering Europe with Real in 2014 and now 2022

Real Madrid gaffer Carlo Ancelotti has officially become the manager with the most Champions League wins.

The Spanish giants became European champions for a record-extending 14th time after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final on Saturday in Paris.

Brazil winger Vinícius Junior scored from close range connecting to Federico Valverde’s drive across the face of goal to secure Ancelotti's record fourth European crown.

Carlo Ancelotti has now won Europe's most prestigious trophy four times - twice with AC Milan and twice with Real Madrid.

All of Ancelotti's European Cup wins have come since the tournament was rebranded as the Champions League in 1992

Zinedine Zidane and Bob Paisley won the trophy three times.

Seventeen managers have won the European Cup twice, including Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.

Ancelotti also won the European Cup as a player - in 1989 and 1990 with Milan.

"I can't believe it. We had a fantastic season. We did really well. It was a difficult game and we suffered a lot, more so in the first half. In the end I think we deserved to win this competition," Ancelotti told BT Sport.
"We're really happy. What can I say? I can't say more," added the Italian, who also won the trophy in 2014 with Madrid in his first spell, and in 2003 and 2007 with AC Milan.
"I am a record man. I had luck to come here last year and have a fantastic season. A fantastic club, a really good squad with a lot of quality and mental character. The season was top.
"I think we passed through really difficult games. The supporters helped us a lot in the last game. They helped us tonight. We're happy and they're happy."

Benzema's disallowed goal divides opinions among soccer fans

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that football fans across the globe had mixed reactions after Karim Benzema's goal was ruled out for offside in the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Games of such nature and magnitude are always characterized by defining moments which affect the destiny of the game and this season's finals witnessed a similar incident.

After a frantic start to the game by Liverpool, Real Madrid managed to neutralize their English opponents and came closest to breaking the duck just before halftime.
