Multiple PSG players, including Lionel Messi, have since been singled out for their sluggish games against Bayern.
Why was Messi singled out?
For the past two seasons, the Argentinian superstar has failed to score or register an assist for PSG in the knockout phase of the competition.
As noted by PSG Talk, football pundit, Jerome Rothen said Messi deserves to take at least some of the blame for the Parisians’ early exit.
“He is unfit for the high level with this state of mind. Do you think it’s normal to see Messi like that? I blame him; he was moved in all the duels,” he said.
Messi only had one shot target during the second-leg defeat to the Bundesliga champions and created three goal-scoring chances, which weren’t converted.
His stats in the rest of the competition this season reflect better. As noted by Transfermarkt, the veteran has played seven games, scored four goals, and created four assists.
