Messi wins The Best award

Messi has been crowned the 2022 FIFA Best Player of the Year at the awards ceremony held in Paris, France on Monday, February 27.

The Argentine beat PSG teammate, Mbappe and Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema to win the top award, Sports Brief also reported.

Messi led Argentina to win a third World Cup in Qatar after netting in all knockout games, including a brace in the final against France.

Mbappe's reaction to Martinez's win

One of the major storylines of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar was Mbappe's strong showing in the final against Argentina.

He almost singlehandedly won the World Cup for a French side that looked over and out in the 78th minute, Sports Brief also reported.

Argentina finally won the game courtesy of Emi Martinez's heroics, but the keeper shocked many when he took his celebration overboard.
